حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرّ
َةَ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَرْبَعٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ كَانَ مُنَافِقًا أَوْ كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنْ الْأَرْبَعِ كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنْ النِّفَاقِ حَتَّى يَدَعَهَا إِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ وَإِذَا وَعَدَ أَخْلَفَ وَإِذَا عَاهَدَ غَدَرَ وَإِذَا خَاصَمَ فَجَرَ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Shu'ba, from Sulayman; and Ibn Numayr, from al-A'mash — from 'Abdullah ibn Murra, from Masruq — that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Four [traits] — whoever has all of them is a hypocrite; and whoever has one of these four traits has one trait of hypocrisy until he abandons it: when he speaks he lies, when he makes a promise he breaks it, when he enters into a covenant he betrays it, and when he disputes he acts wickedly.'
