English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Waki', from al-A'mash, from Abu Wa'il — that Masruq said: 'We used to come to 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr and converse with him. One day we mentioned 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, and he said: "You have mentioned a man whom I have never stopped loving since I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Take the Quran from four: from Ibn Umm 'Abd [i.e., 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud] — and he started with him — and from Mu'adh ibn Jabal, Ubayy ibn Ka'b, and Salim the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfa.'"'
