Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ وَسُفْيَانُ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ الْمَكِّيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْجِهَادِ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَحَيٌّ
وَالِدَاكَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَفِيهِمَا فَجَاهِدْ حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ أَخْبَرَنِي حَبِيبُ بْنُ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو عَنْ الْجِهَادِ فَقَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Waki', from Mis'ar and Sufyan, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Abu al-'Abbas al-Makki — that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ seeking permission to go out for jihad. the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Are your parents alive?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then strive [in service] to them.' [Also narrated via Bahz, from Shu'ba, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Abu al-'Abbas: 'I asked 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr about jihad, and he said: A man came to the Prophet ﷺ...' — and he mentioned the hadith.]
