English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Waki', from Dawud ibn Qays al-Farra', from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about the 'aqiqa [sacrifice for a newborn]. He said: 'I dislike [the word] 'uquq [disobedience — a wordplay]. Whoever has a child born to him and wishes to sacrifice on his behalf, let him do so: two equal sheep for a boy and one sheep for a girl.'
