English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As (رضي الله عنهما) — via Abu Kamil, from Ziyad ibn 'Abdullah ibn 'Ulatha al-Qadi (Abu Sahl), from al-'Ala' ibn Rafi', from al-Farzdaq ibn Hanan al-Qass — who said: 'Shall I not narrate to you a hadith that my own two ears heard and my heart retained — I have not forgotten it since? I went out with 'Ubaydullah ibn Hayda on the road to Syria and we passed by 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As.' He mentioned the hadith and said: 'A man from your people — a rough, bold Bedouin — came and said: "O Messenger of Allah — where is the hijra: to you wherever you may be, or to a specific land, or for specific people, or does it end when you die?" the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was silent for a while, then said: "Where is the one who asked about hijra?" He said: "Here I am, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "If you establish the prayer and give the zakah, you are a muhajir — even if you die in al-Hadhramiyya" — meaning a land in al-Yamama.' Then a man stood and said: 'O Messenger of Allah — what do you say about the garments of the people of Paradise: are they woven, or do they split open from the fruit of Paradise?' The people seemed surprised at the Bedouin's earlier question. He said: 'Why do you wonder at an ignorant man asking a knowledgeable one?' He was silent for a moment, then said: 'Where is the one who asked about the garments of Paradise?' He said: 'Me.' He said: 'No — rather they split open from the fruit of Paradise.'
