English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Hasan ibn Musa, from Hammad ibn Salama, from 'Ali ibn Zayd, from Mutarrif ibn 'Abdullah ibn al-Shikhkhir — that Nawf and 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr met. Nawf spoke [a narration] — then 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As said: 'And I will narrate to you from the Prophet ﷺ: We prayed with the Prophet ﷺ one night. Some stayed on [continuing in prayer] and some returned. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came before the people had yet dispersed from the 'Isha' prayer, coming out short of breath, raising his finger like this — and he counted twenty-nine — pointing his index finger toward the sky, saying: "Glad tidings, O community of Muslims! This is your Lord (عز وجل) — He has opened a gate from the gates of heaven, boasting of you to the angels, saying: 'O My angels — look at these servants of Mine: they have fulfilled one obligatory prayer and are waiting for another.'"'
