حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ قَالَ كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عِنْدَ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ فَذَكَرُوا الرّ
ِيَاءَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يُكْنَى بِأَبِي يَزِيدَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ سَمَّعَ النَّاسَ بِعَمَلِهِ سَمَّعَ اللَّهُ بِهِ سَامِعَ خَلْقِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَحَقَّرَهُ وَصَغَّرَهُ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Abu Nu'aym, from al-A'mash, from 'Amr ibn Murra — who said: 'We were sitting with Abu 'Ubayda when they mentioned riya' [showing off deeds for praise]. A man known as Abu Yazid said: "I heard 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr say: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever shows off his deeds to people — Allah will make the hearers of His creation hear of him [to his disgrace] on the Day of Resurrection, belittling him and humiliating him.'"'
