English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Abu Nu'aym, from Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq, from Hilal ibn Khabbab Abu al-'Ala', from 'Ikrima — who said: 'While we were around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, fitna was mentioned — or mentioned in his presence. He said: "When you see people whose covenants have become muddled and their trustworthiness has grown light, and they are like this" — and he interlaced his fingers. He said: "I stood and said to him: 'What should I do at that time — may Allah make me your ransom?' He said: 'Stay in your home, control your tongue, take what you recognize [as right] and leave what you disapprove of, and attend to your own affairs — leave the affairs of the general public.'"'
