English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ya'qub, from his father, from Ibn Ishaq, from Abu Sufyan al-Harashi — who was regarded as trustworthy by the people of his land — from Muslim ibn Jubayr the freed slave of Thaqif — Muslim being a man from whom [knowledge] was taken, who had met and heard from 'Amr ibn Huraysh al-Zubaidi — from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As — that [a man] said: 'O Abu Muhammad, we are in a land where we find no gold or silver coins. Our wealth is only livestock, so we trade among ourselves. We buy a cow for a sheep on deferred credit, a camel for cows, and a horse for several camels — all on deferred terms. Is there any harm in that for us?' He said: 'You have come to the right man. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered me to dispatch an army on camels I had with me. I equipped the people with them until the camels ran out and there remained a group of people with no transport. I said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "O Messenger of Allah, the camels are exhausted and there remains a group of men without mounts." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: "Buy camels for us with young she-camels [qala'is] from the zakah camels, to be repaid when they fall due, until we can dispatch this army." So I would buy one camel for two or three young she-camels from the zakah camels, to be repaid when due, until I completed the dispatch of that army. Then when the zakah became due, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid it [in full].'
