حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ وَأَبُو النَّضْرِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَابَاهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَ
ذُكِرَتْ الْأَعْمَالُ فَقَالَ مَا مِنْ أَيَّامٍ الْعَمَلُ فِيهِنَّ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْعَشْرِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَلَا الْجِهَادُ قَالَ فَأَكْبَرَهُ قَالَ وَلَا الْجِهَادُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَخْرُجَ رَجُلٌ بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ تَكُونَ مُهْجَةُ نَفْسِهِ فِيهِ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yahya ibn Adam and Abu al-Nadr, from Zuhayr, from Ibrahim ibn Muhajir, from 'Abdullah ibn Babah — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, when deeds were mentioned in his presence: 'There are no days in which deeds are more excellent than these ten days [the first ten days of Dhul-Hijja].' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah — not even jihad?' He considered it [jihad] a great thing [but still said:] 'Not even jihad — except for a man who goes out with himself and his wealth in the way of Allah (عز وجل), and his very life [muhja] is consumed in it.'
