English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Rimtha (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Amr ibn al-Haytham Abu Qatan and Abu al-Nadr, from al-Mas'udi, from Iyad ibn Laqit — from Abu Rimtha, traced back to the Prophet ﷺ: 'The giving hand is the upper one [al-yad al-'ulya] — your mother, your father, your sister, your brother — then the nearest to you, then the nearest.' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, these are Banu Yarbu' — the killers of so-and-so.' He said: 'Indeed, no soul is held accountable for [the crime of] another.' [Abu al-Nadr's version states: I entered the mosque and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering a sermon and saying: 'The giving hand is the upper hand.']
