Hadith #61

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yahya ibn Hammad, from Abu 'Awana, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from his father — that he narrated to them from the Prophet ﷺ: 'A guest came to a man from the Children of Israel, and in his house was a pregnant bitch [mujikh — near to whelping]. During the night she gave birth to pups. The man [was stingy to his guest], and the guest spent the night hungry. The bitch, out of shame for her owner, lay upon her pups and killed them. Allah revealed [a punishment] to the Prophet ﷺ of that time regarding that man — [namely] that He had given him respite so long, yet he had shamed himself before his own animal.'
