English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via al-Walid, from al-Awza'i, from Hassan ibn 'Atiyya, from Muhammad ibn Abi 'A'isha — that Abu Hurayra narrated to them: Abu Dharr (رضي الله عنه) said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the owners of wealth [ashabu al-duthur] have taken all the rewards — they pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, yet they have surplus wealth with which they give charity, while we have nothing to give.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Shall I not guide you to words that, if you act upon them, you will overtake those who preceded you — and none will surpass you except one who does the same?' He said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Say Allahu Akbar after every prayer thirty-three times, SubhanAllah thirty-three times, and Alhamdulillah thirty-three times — and seal it with: La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahu al-mulku wa lahu al-hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir [There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner; to Him belongs all dominion and all praise, and He has power over all things].'
