حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْهُ كَيْفَ الطَّعَامُ أَيْ طَعَامُ الْأَغْنِيَاءِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي الْأَعْرَجُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ شَرُّ الطَّعَامِ الْوَلِيمَةُ يُدْعَى إِلَيْهَا الْأَغْنِيَاءُ وَيُتْرَكُ الْمَسَاكِينُ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَأْتِ الدَّعْوَةَ فَقَدْ عَصَى اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ

English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Sufyan, from al-Zuhri, from al-A'raj — [Sufyan said: I asked al-Zuhri: how is the food? — meaning the food of the wealthy? He said: Al-A'raj informed me from Abu Hurayra]: 'The worst food is that of a walima [wedding feast] to which the wealthy are invited and the poor are left out. And whoever does not respond to the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger.'
