‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيَّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏التَّسْبِيحُ لِلرِّجَالِ ‏ ‏وَالتَّصْفِيقُ ‏ ‏لِلنِّسَاءِ ‏

English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Sufyan, from al-Zuhri, from Abu Salama — that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Tasbeeh [saying SubhanAllah — to alert the imam to a mistake] is for men, and clapping [al-tasfiq] is for women.'
