Hadith #147
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ يَبْلُغُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْتِي أَحَدَكُمْ الشَّيْطَانُ وَهُوَ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَيَلْبِسُ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى لَا يَدْرِيَ كَمْ صَلَّى فَمَنْ وَجَدَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا فَلْيَسْجُدْ سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ
English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Sufyan, from al-Zuhri, from Abu Salama — traced to the Prophet ﷺ: 'Satan comes to one of you while he is in prayer and confuses him until he does not know how many [rak'ahs] he has prayed. Whoever experiences that, let him perform two prostrations while seated [sajdat al-sahw — the prostration of forgetfulness].'
