‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْأَعْرَجِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏أَفْضَلُ الصَّدَقَةِ مَا كَانَ ‏ ‏يَعْنِي عَنْ ظَهْرِ غِنًى ‏ ‏وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ ‏ ‏تَعُولُ ‏

English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Sufyan, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A'raj — traced to the Prophet ﷺ: 'The best charity is that which is given from a position of [genuine] sufficiency [zahr ghina — above one's own needs]. And begin with those who are under your care [ta'ul].'
