Hadith #209

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةً ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ بَيْنَا رَجُلٌ يَسُوقُ بَقَرَةً إِذْ رَكِبَهَا فَضَرَبَهَا قَالَتْ إِنَّا لَمْ نُخْلَقْ لِهَذَا إِنَّمَا خُلِقْنَا لِلْحِرَاثَةِ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ بَقَرَةٌ تَتَكَلَّمُ فَقَالَ فَإِنِّي أُومِنُ بِهَذَا أَنَا وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ غَدًا غَدًا و
َعُمَرُ وَمَا هُمَا ثَمَّ وَبَيْنَا رَجُلٌ فِي غَنَمِهِ إِذْ عَدَا عَلَيْهَا الذِّئْبُ فَأَخَذَ شَاةً مِنْهَا فَطَلَبَهُ فَأَدْرَكَهُ فَاسْتَنْقَذَهَا مِنْهُ فَقَالَ يَا هَذَا اسْتَنْقَذْتَهَا مِنِّي فَمَنْ لَهَا يَوْمَ السَّبُعِ يَوْمَ لَا رَاعِيَ لَهَا غَيْرِي قَالَ النَّاسُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ ذِئْبٌ يَتَكَلَّمُ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أُومِنُ بِذَلِكَ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَمَا هُمَا ثَمَّ

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Sufyan, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A'raj, from Abu Salama — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led them in prayer, then turned to face them and said: 'While a man was driving a cow, he [suddenly] mounted her and struck her. She said: "We were not created for this — we were created for plowing." The people said: "SubhanAllah — a cow speaking!" He said: "Indeed I believe this — and Abu Bakr and 'Umar — though neither of them was present." And while a man was tending his flock, a wolf attacked and seized a sheep. He pursued it, caught up, and rescued the sheep. The wolf said: "O you! You rescued her from me — but who will protect her on the Day of the Wild Beasts [Yawm al-Sabu'] — the day when there is no shepherd but me?" The people said: "SubhanAllah — a wolf speaking!" He said: "Indeed I believe that — and Abu Bakr and 'Umar — though neither of them was present."'
