English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The best charity is that which leaves sufficiency [behind for one's dependents].' [Abu Hurayra then added from himself:] 'Your wife says: "Feed me or divorce me." Your servant says: "Feed me or sell me." And your child says: "To whom are you leaving me?"' People asked: 'O Abu Hurayra, is this something the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, or is this from your own words?' He said: 'This part is from my own [words].'
