حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَ
بِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةُ الرَّجُلِ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ تَزِيدُ عَنْ صَلَاتِهِ فِي بَيْتِهِ وَصَلَاتِهِ فِي سُوقِهِ بِضْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ دَرَجَةً وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ فَأَحْسَنَ الْوُضُوءَ ثُمَّ أَتَى الْمَسْجِدَ لَا يُرِيدُ إِلَّا الصَّلَاةَ لَا يَنْهَزُهُ إِلَّا الصَّلَاةُ لَمْ يَخْطُ خَطْوَةً إِلَّا رُفِعَ لَهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةٌ وَحُطَّ بِهَا عَنْهُ خَطِيئَةٌ حَتَّى يَدْخُلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَإِذَا دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ كَانَ فِي صَلَاةٍ مَا كَانَتْ الصَّلَاةُ هِيَ تَحْبِسُهُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى أَحَدِهِمْ مَا دَامَ فِي مَجْلِسِهِ الَّذِي صَلَّى فِيهِ يَقُولُونَ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمْهُ اللَّهُمَّ تُبْ عَلَيْهِ مَا لَمْ يُؤْذِ فِيهِ مَا لَمْ يُحْدِثْ فِيهِ

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'A man's prayer in congregation surpasses his prayer in his home and in his marketplace by twenty-some degrees [bid'an wa 'ishrin]. The reason is that when one of you performs thorough wudu, then comes to the mosque with the sole intention of prayer — nothing bringing him out but prayer — he does not take a single step except that a degree is raised for him and a sin is erased, until he enters the mosque. When he enters the mosque, he is [considered] in prayer as long as [the start of] prayer holds him there. The angels invoke blessings upon each of them as long as he remains in his prayer place, saying: "O Allah, forgive him; O Allah, have mercy on him; O Allah, accept his repentance" — as long as he does not cause harm and does not break his ritual purity while there.'
