English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-Razzaq, from Ma'mar and al-Thawri, from Isma'il ibn Umayya, from Abu 'Amr ibn Hurayth, from his father — raised to the Prophet ﷺ: 'When one of you prays, let him pray toward something [a sutrah — barrier]. If there is nothing, then [toward] a staff. If there is no staff, let him draw a line — then whatever passes in front of him will not harm him.'
