حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَيْرُ الصَّدَقَةِ مَا كَانَ عَ
نْ ظَهْرِ غِنًى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى قُلْتُ لِأَيُّوبَ مَا عَنْ ظَهْرِ غِنًى قَالَ عَنْ فَضْلِ غِنَاكَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-Razzaq, from Ma'mar, from Ayyub, from Ibn Sirin — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The best charity is what comes from [a position of] financial sufficiency [zahr ghina — above one's own needs]. Begin with those who are in your care [dependents]. And the upper hand [the giving hand] is better than the lower hand [the receiving hand].' [The narrator said:] I asked Ayyub: 'What does "from a position of financial sufficiency" mean?' He said: 'From the surplus of your wealth.'
