English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Mu'ammal ibn Isma'il, from Hammad ibn Salama, from Burd ibn Sinan, from al-Zuhri, from Abu Salama — that the Prophet ﷺ said: "There is no prophet or caliph" — or he said, "There is no prophet" — "except that he has two types of inner companions: one that commands him to good and forbids him from evil, and another that spares no effort in corrupting him. Whoever is protected from the evil companion has been truly protected." He said it three times. "And he is with whichever of the two prevails over him."
