English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Yazid, from 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Salama al-Majishun, from Wahb ibn Kaysan, from 'Ubayd ibn 'Umayr al-Laythi — that the Prophet ﷺ said: "While a man was in a desert, he heard a voice in a cloud saying: 'Water the garden of so-and-so.' The cloud moved aside and poured its water onto a lava field. He went to the lava field and found one of the water channels had collected all of that water. He followed the water and found a man standing in his garden, redirecting the water with his shovel. He said to him: 'O servant of Allah, what is your name?' The man gave the exact name he had heard in the cloud. The gardener said: 'Why do you ask my name?' He said: 'I heard a voice in the cloud from which this water came, saying: Water the garden of so-and-so, with your name. What do you do with it?' He said: 'Since you say that, I look at what it produces: I give one-third in charity, I eat one-third with my family, and I put one-third back into it.'"
