English Translation

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us — he was asked about the imam's recitation in prayer — he said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Muhammad, from 'Ata ibn Abi Rabah, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) who said: 'In every prayer there is recitation. What the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made us hear, we make you hear, and what he was silent about, we are silent about. If you add nothing beyond the Mother of the Book (al-Fatihah), it suffices, and if you add more, it is better.'
