Hadith #227
Arabic Text
قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : مَالِكٌ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أُكَيْمَةَ اللَّيْثِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ انْصَرَفَ مِنْ صَلَاةٍ جَهَرَ فِيهَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فَقَالَ هَلْ قَرَأَ مَعِي أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ آنِفًا قَالَ رَجُلٌ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
قَالَ إِنِّي أَقُولُ مَا لِي أُنَازَعُ الْقُرْآنَ قَالَ فَانْتَهَى النَّاسُ عَنْ الْقِرَاءَةِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيمَا جَهَرَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ الْقِرَاءَةِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ حِينَ سَمِعُوا ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

English Translation
He (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that i recited upon Abd al-Rahman: Malik, from Ibn Shihab, from Ibn Ukaymah al-Laythi, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned away from a prayer in which he had recited aloud and said: 'Did any of you recite with me just now?' A man said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'I was wondering why I was being disputed with regarding the Quran.' So the people stopped reciting behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in prayers where he recited aloud.
