حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ عَنْ ثَوْرٍ عَنِ الْحُصَيْنِ كَذَا قَالَ عَنْ أَبِي سَ

عْدِ الْخَيْرِ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ اكْتَحَلَ فَلْيُوتِرْ وَمَنْ فَعَلَ فَقَدْ أَحْسَنَ وَمَنْ لَا فَلَا حَرَجَ عَلَيْهِ وَمَنْ اسْتَجْمَرَ فَلْيُوتِرْ وَمَنْ فَعَلَ فَقَدْ أَحْسَنَ وَمَنْ لَا فَلَا حَرَجَ وَمَنْ أَكَلَ فَمَا تَخَلَّلَ فَلْيَلْفِظْ وَمَنْ لَاكَ بِلِسَانِهِ فَلْيَبْتَلِعْ مَنْ فَعَلَ فَقَدْ أَحْسَنَ وَمَنْ لَا فَلَا حَرَجَ وَمَنْ أَتَى الْغَائِطَ فَلْيَسْتَتِرْ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ إِلَّا أَنْ يَجْمَعَ كَثِيبًا فَلْيَسْتَدْبِرْهُ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَلْعَبُ بِمَقَاعِدِ بَنِي آدَمَ مَنْ فَعَلَ فَقَدْ أَحْسَنَ وَمَنْ لَا فَلَا حَرَجَ

English Translation

Surayj narrated to us who (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that 'Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us, from Thawr, from al-Husayn — this is what he said — from Abu Sa'd al-Khayr, who was from the companions of 'Umar (رضي الله عنه), from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'If the people knew what is in calling the adhan and standing in the first row, and they found no way to get to it except by drawing lots, they would draw lots for it.'
