Hadith #206
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ حَدِّثْنِي عَنْ طَلَاقِكَ امْرَأَتَكَ قَالَ طَلَّقْتُهَا وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ قَالَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَذَكَرَهُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْه
ِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُرْهُ فَلْيُرَاجِعْهَا فَإِذَا طَهُرَتْ فَلْيُطَلِّقْهَا فِي طُهْرِهَا قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ هَلْ اعْتَدَدْتَ بِالَّتِي طَلَّقْتَهَا وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ قَالَ فَمَا لِي لَا أَعْتَدُّ بِهَا وَإِنْ كُنْتُ قَدْ عَجَزْتُ وَاسْتَحْمَقْتُ

English Translation
Al-`Awwam narrated: an old man who was guarding the coast told me: I met Abu Salih, the freed slave of `Umar bin al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) and he said, `Umar bin al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) told us that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “There is no night in which the sea does not approach the land three times and ask Allah for permission to flood it, but Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, restrains it.`
