English Translation
Khalaf narrated to us, he said Abu Ma'shar narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه): A crescent would pass by the family of the Prophet ﷺ, then another crescent — three crescents in two months — and no fire would be lit in the houses of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Abu Hurayrah was asked: 'What sustained them?' He said: 'The two black ones: dates and water. And they had some neighbors from the Ansar — may Allah reward them — who would send them some of their milk.'
