Hadith #340
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ أَنّ
َ فَتًى مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ أَتَى أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَتَبَخْتَرُ فِي حُلَّةٍ لَهُ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ رَجُلًا مِمَّنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ كَانَ يَتَبَخْتَرُ فِي حُلَّةٍ لَهُ قَدْ أَعْجَبَتْهُ جُمَّتُهُ وَبُرْدَاهُ إِذْ خُسِفَ بِهِ الْأَرْضُ فَهُوَ يَتَجَلْجَلُ فِيهَا حَتَّى تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
'Affan narrated to us, he said: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, he said: Thabit narrated to us, from Abu Rafi', that a young man from Quraysh came to Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) strutting in a fine garment. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'A man from those before you was strutting in a fine garment, admiring his hair and his cloak, when the earth swallowed him up, and he continues sinking in it until the Day of Resurrection.'
