حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَقُولُوا لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ فَإِذَا قَالُوهَا عَصَمُوا مِنِّي دِمَاءَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهَا وَحِسَابُهُمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ عَ
زَّ وَجَلَّ قَالَ فَلَمَّا كَانَتْ الرِّدَّةُ قَالَ عُمَرُ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ تُقَاتِلُهُمْ وَقَدْ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ كَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَاللَّهِ لَا أُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ الصَّلَاةِ وَالزَّكَاةِ وَلَأُقَاتِلَنَّ مَنْ فَرَّقَ بَيْنَهَا قَالَ فَقَاتَلْنَا مَعَهُ فَرَأَيْنَا ذَلِكَ رَشَدًا

English Translation
Muhammad ibn Yazid narrated to us, he said: Sufyan ibn Husayn narrated to us from al-Zuhri, from 'Ubaydullah ibn 'Abdullah ibn 'Utbah ibn Mas'ud, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), from the Prophet ﷺ who said: "I have been commanded to fight the people until they say 'La ilaha illa Allah' (there is no god but Allah). When they say it, they have protected their blood and their wealth from me, except by its right, and their reckoning is with Allah (عز وجل)." He said: When the apostasy occurred, 'Umar said to Abu Bakr: "Would you fight them when you heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say such-and-such?" Abu Bakr said: "By Allah, I will not separate between prayer and zakah, and I will fight whoever differentiates between them." He said: So we fought alongside him and we saw that as the right course of action.
