English Translation

Hajjaj narrated to us, he said: Layth narrated to me, he said: 'Uqayl narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Salamah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman and Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) who said: A man from the Muslims came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in the mosque and called out: "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed adultery." the Prophet ﷺ turned away from him. The man moved to face him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed adultery." He turned away from him until the man repeated it four times. When he had testified against himself four times, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called him and said: "Are you insane?" He said: "No." He said: "Are you married?" He said: "Yes." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Take him away and stone him." Ibn Shihab said: One who heard Jabir ibn 'Abdullah told me that he said: "I was among those who stoned him. We stoned him at the musalla (prayer ground), and when the stones struck him painfully, he fled. We caught up with him at al-Harrah and stoned him."
