Hadith #295

English Translation

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, he said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from al-Julas, who said: I heard 'Uthman ibn Shammas say: Marwan used to pass by Madinah and would pass by Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) while he was narrating hadith. He said: "Tell me some of your hadith, O Abu Hurayrah." Then he went on. Then he came back and said: "O Abu Hurayrah, how did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray over the deceased?" He said: He would say: "You created him — or he said: You are the One who created him (Shu'bah was the one uncertain) — and You guided him to Islam, and You took his soul. You know his secret and his public deeds. We have come as intercessors, so forgive him."
