English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, he said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn Abi Maymunah, who said: I heard Abu Rafi' narrating from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), from the Prophet ﷺ, that Zaynab's name was originally Barrah (meaning pious/righteous). It was said: "She is praising herself." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named her Zaynab.
