English Translation

Yazid narrated to us, Muhammad—meaning Ibn Ishaq—informed us, from al-Ala ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Ya'qub, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'It is better for one of you to go out early and collect firewood, carry it on his back, and give charity from it and be free of need from people, than to ask a man who may or may not give him. For the upper hand is better than the lower hand. Start with those who are in your care.'
