Surayj narrated to us, Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, from Suhayl, meaning Ibn Abi Salih, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When one of you stands in his prayer, he is conversing intimately with his Lord — or his Lord is between him and the qiblah. So let him not spit in front of him, but rather to his left or beneath his foot.'
