حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحٌ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ الْوِصَالِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْمُسْلِمِينَ إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ لَسْتُ
مْ مِثْلِي إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي فَلَمَّا أَبَوْا أَنْ يَنْتَهُوا عَنْ الْوِصَالِ وَاصَلَ بِهِمْ يَوْمًا ثُمَّ يَوْمًا ثُمَّ رُئِيَ الْهِلَالُ فَقَالَ لَوْ تَأَخَّرَ لَزِدْتُكُمْ كَالْمُنَكِّلِ

English Translation
Rawh narrated to us, Salih narrated to us, Ibn Shihab informed us, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited al-wisal (continuous fasting without breaking). A man from the Muslims said: 'But you practice wisal, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Which of you is like me? I spend the night and my Lord feeds me and gives me drink.' When they refused to stop wisal, he fasted with them continuously for a day and a night, then they saw the new moon. He said: 'Had it been delayed, I would have continued with you further'—as a punishment for them when they refused to stop.
