Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ يَعْنِي الطَّيَالِسِيَّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْخَزَّازُ عَنْ سَيَّارٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ فَدَخَلَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ فَقَالَتْ أَنْتَ الَّذِي تُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً عُذِّبَتْ
فِي هِرَّةٍ لَهَا رَبَطَتْهَا فَلَمْ تُطْعِمْهَا وَلَمْ تَسْقِهَا فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْهُ يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ كَذَا قَالَ أَبِي فَقَالَتْ هَلْ تَدْرِي مَا كَانَتْ الْمَرْأَةُ إِنَّ الْمَرْأَةَ مَعَ مَا فَعَلَتْ كَانَتْ كَافِرَةً وَإِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ أَكْرَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مِنْ أَنْ يُعَذِّبَهُ فِي هِرَّةٍ فَإِذَا حَدَّثْتَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ تُحَدِّثُ

English Translation
Sulayman ibn Dawud—meaning al-Tayalisi—narrated to us, Abu Amir al-Khazzaz narrated to us, from Sayyar, from al-Sha'bi, from Alqamah, who said: We were with Aishah (رضي الله عنها) when Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) entered. She said: 'Are you the one who narrates the hadith about a woman being punished for a cat that she tied up?' Abu Hurayrah said: 'I heard it from the Prophet ﷺ.' She said: 'Do you know what that woman was? That woman, despite what she did, was a disbeliever. A believer is more honored before Allah than for Him to punish her for a cat.'
