Hadith #521
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو حَدَّثَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ جُنَّةٌ يُقَاتَلُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ وَيُتَّقَى بِهِ فَإِنْ أَمَرَ بِتَقْوَى وَعَدَلَ فَإِنَّ لَهُ بِذَلِكَ أَجْرًا وَإِنْ أَمَرَ بِغَيْرِ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّ عَلَيْهِ فِيهِ وِزْرًا
English Translation
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) narrated from the Prophet ﷺ: 'The imam is but a shield; one fights behind him and is protected by him. If he orders the fear of Allah عز وجل and is just, he shall have a reward for that. And if he orders otherwise, it shall be against him.'
