‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْمُغِيرَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْأَعْرَجِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ ‏ ‏جُنَّةٌ ‏ ‏يُقَاتَلُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ ‏ ‏وَيُتَّقَى بِهِ فَإِنْ أَمَرَ بِتَقْوَى وَعَدَلَ فَإِنَّ لَهُ بِذَلِكَ أَجْرًا وَإِنْ أَمَرَ بِغَيْرِ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّ عَلَيْهِ فِيهِ وِزْرًا ‏

English Translation

Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) narrated from the Prophet ﷺ: 'The imam is but a shield; one fights behind him and is protected by him. If he orders the fear of Allah عز وجل and is just, he shall have a reward for that. And if he orders otherwise, it shall be against him.'
