حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا مِنْ مَنَاقِبِ الْخَيْرِ فَقَالَ رَ
سُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجَبَتْ إِنَّكُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ مُرَّ عَلَيْهِ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا مِنْ مَنَاقِبِ الشَّرِّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّكُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ

English Translation
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) narrated: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a funeral and the people praised the deceased with good. the Prophet ﷺ said: 'It is confirmed.' Then he passed by another funeral and the people spoke ill of the deceased. He said: 'It is confirmed.' 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) asked: 'What is confirmed?' He said: 'The one you praised with good — Paradise is confirmed for him. And the one you spoke ill of — the Fire is confirmed for him. You are the witnesses of Allah on earth.'
