Hadith #534

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْمُتَوَكِّلِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ أَنَّ نَاسًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَوْا عَلَى حَيٍّ مِنْ أَحْيَاءِ الْعَرَبِ فَلَمْ يَقْرُوهُمْ فَبَيْنَا هُمْ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ لُدِغَ سَيِّدُ أُولَئِكَ فَقَالُوا هَلْ فِيكُمْ دَوَاءٌ أَوْ رَاقٍ فَقَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ لَمْ تَقْرُونَا وَلَا نَفْعَلُ حَتَّى تَجْعَلُوا لَنَا جُعْلًا فَجَعَلُوا لَ
هُمْ قَطِيعًا مِنْ شَاءٍ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ يَقْرَأُ أُمَّ الْقُرْآنِ وَيَجْمَعُ بُزَاقَهُ وَيَتْفُلُ فَبَرَأَ الرَّجُلُ فَأَتَوْهُمْ بِالشَّاءِ فَقَالُوا لَا نَأْخُذُهَا حَتَّى نَسْأَلَ عَنْهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلُوا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَضَحِكَ وَقَالَ مَا أَدْرَاكَ أَنَّهَا رُقْيَةٌ خُذُوهَا وَاضْرِبُوا لِي فِيهَا بِسَهْمٍ

English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Bishr, from Abu al-Mutawakkil, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه), that some of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ came upon an Arab tribe, but they did not show them hospitality. While they were like that, the chief of that tribe was stung. They said: Do any of you have a remedy or a ruqyah? They said: You did not show us hospitality, so we will not do it unless you give us something. They agreed on a flock of sheep. One of them began reciting al-Fatihah and gathering his saliva and blowing on the sting, and the man was cured. They brought the sheep, and they said: We will not take them until we ask the Prophet ﷺ. So they asked him, and he laughed and said: 'How did you know it was a ruqyah? Take them and assign me a share among you.'
