حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ح وَعَتَّابٌ قَال

َ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْهَى عَنْ اخْتِنَاثِ الْأَسْقِيَةِ

English Translation

'Ali ibn Ishaq narrated to us, he said: 'Abdullah informed us — and 'Attab said: 'Abdullah narrated to us — from Yunus, from al-Zuhri, he said: 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Abdullah narrated to me that he entered upon Abu Talhah al-Ansari (رضي الله عنه) to visit him during his illness. He found Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) with him. Abu Talhah called a boy of his to remove a cushion from beneath him. Abu Sa'id said: 'Why are you removing it?' He said: 'Because it has images on it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said regarding them what you know.' Abu Sa'id said: 'Did the Prophet ﷺ not say: Except for writing on a garment?' He said: 'Yes, but this is better for my soul.'
