حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الْمَوَالِ مَوْلًى لِآلِ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ قَالَ كَانَتْ جَنَازَةٌ فِي ا
لْحِجْرِ فَجَاءَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ فَوَسَّعُوا لَهُ فَأَبَى أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ وَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ خَيْرَ الْمَجَالِسِ أَوْسَعُهَا

English Translation
Abu Sa'id, freed slave of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, he said: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Mawal, a freed slave of the family of 'Ali, narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi 'Amrah narrated to us, he said: There was a funeral in al-Hirrah [lava field area of Madinah], and Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) attended it. He said: When the funeral was placed [on the ground], Abu Sa'id said: 'O people, this going out for funerals is not an obligation imposed upon you, nor a Sunnah that you are required to follow. Once you have delivered it to its place [the grave], you have fulfilled your duty. If you wish to sit, then do so; and if you wish to leave, then leave.'
