English Translation
Ali ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Mutarrif narrated to us, Zayd ibn Aslam narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn Yasar, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Prophet ﷺ said: "Be mindful of sitting in the pathways." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we have no choice but to sit there; those are our gathering places where we converse." He said: "If you must have your gatherings, then give the pathway its rights." They said: "What are the rights of the pathway?" He said: "Lowering the gaze, refraining from harm, returning the greeting, enjoining good, and forbidding evil."
