English Translation

Abu Kamil narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Sa'd narrated to us, Ibn Shihab narrated to us, from 'Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn 'Utbah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Prophet ﷺ was asked: "Which people bear the most severe trials?" He said: "the Prophet ﷺs, then the righteous, then those nearest to them, then those nearest to them. A man is tried according to his religion. If his religion is firm, his trial increases, and if there is weakness in his religion, his trial is lightened. A person continues to be tried until he walks upon the earth without any sin upon him."
