English Translation
'Ali ibn Ishaq narrated to us, 'Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak informed us, Sa'id al-Jurayri informed us, from Abu Nadrah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to go out to the place of sacrifice and lead the prayer. Then when he had delivered his sermon and commanded the people, he would head to his house. The people continued to follow this practice until the day Marwan ibn al-Hakam became governor. I went out to meet Marwan. When he came out to the prayer ground, he headed straight for the minbar before the prayer. I pulled on his garment, but he pushed me away and ascended the minbar. He delivered the khutbah before the prayer. I said: You have changed it, by Allah! He said: O Abu Sa'id, what you knew has gone. I said: What I know, by Allah, is better than what I do not know. He said: The people would not sit for us after the prayer, so I made it before the prayer.
