Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ أَلَمْ آتِكُمْ ضُلَّالًا فَهَدَاكُمْ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِي أَلَمْ آ
تِكُمْ مُتَفَرِّقِينَ فَجَمَعَكُمْ اللَّهُ بِي أَلَمْ آتِكُمْ أَعْدَاءً فَأَلَّفَ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِكُمْ بِي قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَفَلَا تَقُولُونَ جِئْتَنَا خَائِفًا فَآمَنَّاكَ وَطَرِيدًا فَآوَيْنَاكَ وَمَخْذُولًا فَنَصَرْنَاكَ فَقَالُوا بَلْ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى الْمَنُّ بِهِ عَلَيْنَا وَلِرَسُولِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

English Translation
Ibn Abi 'Adi narrated to us, from Humayd, from Anas (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O Ansar! Did I not come to you when you were astray and Allah (عز وجل) guided you through me? Did I not come to you when you were divided and Allah united you through me? Did I not come to you when you were poor and Allah enriched you through me?" Each time they said: "Allah and His Messenger have shown more grace." He said: "Will you not respond to me?" They said: "What shall we respond, O Messenger of Allah? To Allah and His Messenger belong all grace." He said: "By Allah, if you wished, you could have said — and you would have been truthful — 'You came to us rejected and we believed you, and you came abandoned and we supported you.'" The Ansar wept until their beards were wet and they said: "To Allah and His Messenger belong grace and favor."
