English Translation
Ibn Abi 'Adiyy narrated from Humayd, and 'Abdullah ibn Bakr al-Sahmi narrated from Humayd, from Thabit, from Anas (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited a man among the Muslims who had become as frail as a chick. He said: 'Were you supplicating with anything or asking for anything?' The man said: 'Yes, I used to say: O Allah, whatever punishment You would give me in the Hereafter, bring it forward to me in this world.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'SubhanAllah! You cannot bear that — or you are not able to do that. Why did you not say: O Allah, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire?' He supplicated to Allah for him, and he was cured.
