Ibn Abi 'Adiyy narrated from Humayd, from Anas (رضي الله عنه) that 'Abdullah ibn Salam came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ upon his arrival in Madinah and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I will ask you about three things that only a prophet would know. What is the first sign of the Hour? What is the first food that the people of Paradise will eat? And why does a child resemble his father or his maternal uncle?' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Jibril informed me of them just now.' He said: 'That is the enemy of the Jews among the angels.' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'The first sign of the Hour is a fire that will gather the people from the east to the west. The first food that the people of Paradise will eat is the extra lobe of fish liver. As for the child's resemblance: when the man's fluid precedes the woman's, the child resembles him; and when the woman's fluid precedes the man's, the child resembles her.' He said: 'I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' Then he said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the Jews are a slanderous people, and if they learn of my acceptance of Islam before you ask them about me, they will slander me.' The Jews came, and the Prophet ﷺ asked: 'What kind of man is 'Abdullah ibn Salam among you?' They said: 'He is our best and the son of our best, our most knowledgeable and the son of our most knowledgeable.' He said: 'What would you think if 'Abdullah accepted Islam?' They said: 'May Allah protect him from that!' 'Abdullah came out and said: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' They said: 'He is our worst and the son of our worst,' and they disparaged him.
