حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُبَارَكٍ أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قُرَيْطٍ أَنَّ عَطَاءَ بْنَ يَسَارٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ وَعَرَفَ حُدُودَهُ وَتَحَفَّظَ مِمَّا كَانَ يَنْبَغِي لَهُ أَنْ يَتَحَفَّظَ فِيهِ كَفَّرَ مَا كَانَ قَبْلَهُ
English Translation
'Ali ibn Ishaq narrated to us, 'Abdullah, meaning Ibn al-Mubarak, informed us, Yahya ibn Ayyub informed us, from 'Abdullah ibn Qurayt, that 'Ata' ibn Yasar narrated to him that he heard Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) say: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Beware of sitting in the pathways.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we have no alternative; they are our sitting places where we converse.' He said: 'If you must sit, then give the pathway its right.' They asked: 'What is its right, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Lowering the gaze, refraining from causing harm, returning the greeting of salam, commanding good, and forbidding evil.'
